Sword design accuracy critique thread

I've made several cardboard replicas of this sword, and I conclude that, though it is fairly realistic, it has the following problems:
  • It's rather front-heavy. This makes it harder to wield.
  • The guard is unrealistic. It doesn't protect the back of your hand.
  • It isn't anything like the real European longswords Tolkien's Elves should be using.

Absurd fantasy sword

Oh my... this sword does not look realistic.

  • Those prongs in from of the guard completely ruin the usefulness of the guard.
  • The weight and balance are completely off.
  • At the base of the blade, that thin part does not seem sturdy enough.

Don't make a sword like this one.

At last we get longsword-wielding Elves!

It looks like an Oakeshott type XVII to my eyes—long, thin, evenly tapered, thrust-oriented.

Problems:
  • The guard slopes backwards quite a bit, which is not optimal—this makes it less suited for both simple hand protection and for trapping the opponent's blade.
  • The hilt is too long, in my estimation, for it really be practical.
